The Beauty of a Neutral Palette

neautral rooms

Selecting a neutral palette for your home décor is still the best investment you can make. As a retail and design business we always recommend our customers and clients purchase high-quality neutral furnishings in order to create a clean canvas in which to build on.

When you are ready for a change in scenery, neutral tones give you the opportunity to add different colors, patterns and textures in a room. This allows vibrancy and interest for a new and updated look.

Build Layers Tone by Tone

Rooms that have a more neutral base allow the texture and tones to play off one another. This painting is a great building block for this living room because it helps pave the way for other shades and textures which creates lots of excitement. We added these charcoal sculptures to tie in the zebra striped pillows. The wooden mantle and texturized limestone fireplace mimic the surface texture in this art piece by John-Richard. When you utilize soft and hard surfaces you achieve a good room composition.

Neutral backgrounds Allow Color to Pop

Here is the same room with some bright orange and gold fortuny lumbar pillows that were added to these white upholstered wing back chairs. We added a plant and mini art on an easel for a spring look giving a little more color and warmth to go with these pretty pine wooden floors. Often times wood is all you need to show contrast in a neutral room. Adding these subtle changes, like the pillows and accessories, gives you a quick and easy update for any season.

Use Glass and Metal Elements

Light reflective materials are another way to build on a neutral palette. Metal and glass gives another dimension of texture and sheen which provides a great ambiance and character to a space. We love these beautiful John-Richard silver cocoon candle holders. They look perfect flanked on either side of the mantel.

A great neutral room truly allows for design flexibility and creativity. Next time you have the opportunity to buy a hued sofa, think about whether you can live with the color for the next 10 years. If you are not willing to commit, then choose a neutral piece instead. Neutral never goes out of style.
